Title

Monotropa Hypopitys, Monotropa Uniflora, and Rhodora

Description

A watercolor painting of Monotropa Hypopitys, Monotropa Uniflora, and Rhodora with a collection of notes. The written notation by the monotropa hypopitys on the upper right indicates that it was painted on September 5, 1892 and was sent by an H. Procter from Mohonk. The written notation by the monotropa uniform indicates that it was painted September 8, 1890. A written notation by another monotropa hypopitys says that it was brought from the woods by a Caroline and was painted on August 7, 1892. The written notation by the Rhodora indicates that it was sent from Westfield, Massachusetts by a Mr. Scott and a description of the plant appears on page 300 of Asa Gray's Manual of Botany. By the Rhodora Mary Doane also wrote out the poem Rhodora by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
